Learning Disability
One important aspect of JIT's Shared Learning work area is the development of good practice guidance. Evidence-based research is the ideal way to gather and share information that partnerships can apply in their own area.
We're currently in the early stages of developing good practice guidelines to improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities.
What's JIT doing?
In November 2005, we held a conference at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh. This conference was jointly organised by JIT, the Association of Directors of Social Work (ADSW) and the Mental Welfare Commission.
The purpose of the conference was two-fold:
- To provide current evidence-based information about learning disability services that was relevant to health and social care partnerships; and
- A first step towards developing a framework to support wider implementation of this research-based information.
Speakers' presentations and workshop discussions focused on what approaches have proven effective in the planning, commissioning and provision of services. A key feature of the conference was identifying what should be done next.
