Previous mapping of the falls pathway had demonstrated that there was no clear systematic approach to the identification and onward referral of those presenting to the A&E department at the local hospital with a fall.
The type of break traditionally offered to older people and their carers through Adult Wellbeing is a one or two week stay in a care home which suits many older people but not all. There is a shortage of places for breaks in care homes that can be booked in advance which limits choice and can make the process of arranging a break quite pressured. There are also some older people for whom a stay in a care home is not an appropriate option.
To produce a directory of all the organisations and service provision in North Ayrshire for Older People, split for Mainland and Arran so that all sectors have access to information and know how they can access the services and how to direct older people/carers to them.
In respect of Older People a development plan had been produced by the statutory agencies prior to RCOP. This included a proposed focus to improve socialisation and reduce isolation for Older People living in North Ayrshire.
