Within the Capacity to Change Older People section there is an online interactive system which has been designed to help local authority and health partners manage data across the whole system to assist capacity planning. It will be of particular use when considering older people's services, as local commissioning plans are developed. These national (core) data sets should be used in conjunction with local data and information.

The two datasets can be downloaded, saved and used at local level.

Care and Resource and Utilisation: Ensuring Appropriateness of Care

Care and resource utilisation (CRU) is all about giving the patient the right treatment in the right place at the right time.

This English Department of Health document is intended as a best practice resource that provides help and advice to commissioners about techniques available to maximise resources and ensure appropriateness of care.

It aims to help identify areas where services can be redesigned, thereby freeing up resources to focus on clinically needy patients.
