Commissioning/Capacity Planning Effective Services for Older People - The Interactive Commissioning Information System

This online interactive system has been designed to help local authority and health partners manage data across the whole system to assist capacity planning. It will be of particular use when considering older people's services, as local commissioning plans are developed. These national (core) data sets should be used in conjunction with local data and information.

The two datasets can be downloaded, saved and used at local level.

The information system contains information for all local authority and NHS board areas and provides projections of service use if practice stays the same as at present and services are simply increased at the current rate to meet changing population levels. This may help illustrate challenges in capacity planning to change current practices and the local balance of care.

Using the Information System

You'll find guidance on how to use the system in the introduction section and details for each page on the respective page Information about the context for using the workbook and the purpose of the workbook are also provided.

Put simply, the information system comprises a series of tables, graphs and information that can be detailed by each local authority or NHS Board area. This data drawn from national sources requires to be complemented by local data. The Joint Improvement Team is developing further interactive spreadsheets which can be populated with local data, to provide information to support the analysis of existing services and consider service development.

Providing Care for Older People in Scotland: Care Home Provision

From our work with partnerships to support the effective commissioning of services for older people we were asked for information about care home provision across Scotland from a number of partnerships. As a result of responses received from a JIT/ADSW joint questionnaire on the use of care homes for older people, a summary report has been prepared. You can download the report here.
